Pen and ink and watercolour

In 2007, this little Australian set off across the waters - returning to the Mother Country, England, to study theology at Capernwray Hall in Carnforth, Lancashire. I can't really imagine a more picturesque and calming place to study. The gothic-revival hall (or castle as we called it) and the well kept grounds and surrounding farmland and gentle, rolling hills were a true slice of heaven - further enhanced by the people I met there. When I returned to Melbourne at the end of my studies I captured this scene based on a photo I had taken on a rather serene evening in spring. The lamppost gives a real 'Narnian' air to the resulting watercolour and pen and ink artwork and I can't help but feel more cheerful whenever I look at it.
