ABOUT THE ARTWORK
(Olinda, Dandenong Ranges)
2009
Pen and ink
28 x 23 cm
Tucked away in the Dandenong Ranges, not far from the township of Olinda, is a charming period cottage that houses the restaurant 'Coonara Springs'. The house sits on the main road and the gardens (designed by the renowned Edna Walling) slope down the hill. Sitting at the far end of the restaurant the diner is treated to the most glorious views of the gardens, the valley and the hills and mountains beyond. I was charmed by the building and its grounds the first time I visited and was compelled to capture it in pen and ink. The building and gardens have been renovated since then - revealing more of the architectural features but retaining the timeless charm that has long been part of Coonara Springs.
