ABOUT THE ARTWORK

There would be few people in the western-world that have not heard of Impressionist artist Claude Monet. His impact on the art world - and the gardening world - has been immense. So many children have studied his work in art classes at school and there would be many homes with at least one Monet image appearing in a frame, on a mug or on a placemat. In some of my own art classes that I teach, we studied Monet's works and had a go at 'Impressionism' for ourselves - seeking to capture the brilliance of colours, the layers of brushstrokes and shimmering qualities of light that his works are known for.
Monet's garden at Giverny has long captivated me and it was a delight for me to put myself in Monet's shoes and capture the Japanese bridge for myself. It has been an interesting exercise to step out of my usual style to try another and see the result - my love of colour, light and beauty still shines through.
